Slains Castle Montage

After two evenings of editing photographs, here is my first attempt at using a montage to capture the haphazard ruins of Slains Castle.

Warning - if you click on the link, it'll take you to the huge montage to scroll around - approx 6500w x 3700h and 2.4mb JPG.

I had lots of photos (approx 150) of the castle, I didn't want to do the 'standard' "choose the best", so the idea of a montage came to me about half-way through the afternoon. I wasn't methodical about it though, taking a wrap-around of all the aspects of the building.

Manipulating the shots down to a standard size took an evening, and moving them within the montage took another evening. Tryng to show the towers and corridors through the castle, and spiral staircases to get to the upper view. And no hiding a vampire anywhere in any of the photos, as that would be too cliched.

I don't know if it works, as I can't step back from it. Easier for me to comment on someone else's work than to comment on my own.

If I was doing it again, I reckon I'd be more methodical in mapping the castle, so that a true representation of it could be shown in the montage - but that wouldn't show the chaos of the structure.

I think you did a reasonably good job - I have climbed all over it twice now, and it makes a fair representation.

Thanks, Hugo. If I'm manipulating images, I can normally tell if I've done a good job just by looking at it. But the montage is something new to me. I'm not used to trying to be 'artistic' - it'll be close-ups of everyday objects next. Dashed addictive this photography lark.
